Hypnotherapy for Children

Helping Children Thrive with Hypnotherapy

Children often experience worries, fears, and emotional challenges that can affect their confidence, happiness, behaviour, sleep, and performance at school. Because children naturally have vivid imaginations and are highly receptive to positive suggestions, hypnotherapy can be an effective and gentle way to help them overcome difficulties and develop greater emotional resilience.

As a hypnotherapist with over 26 years of experience, I work with children in a safe, supportive, and relaxed environment, helping them make positive changes quickly and naturally.

How can Hypnotherapy Help Children?

Hypnotherapy can help children with a wide range of issues, including:

  • Anxiety and excessive worrying
  • School-related stress
  • Exam nerves and performance anxiety
  • Low confidence and self-esteem
  • Fears and phobias
  • Separation anxiety
  • Sleep problems and insomnia
  • Bedwetting
  • Nail biting and other unwanted habits
  • Bullying and social difficulties
  • Anger and emotional regulation
  • Public speaking and presentations
  • Sports performance and confidence
  • Stress-related tummy aches and headaches

Every child is unique, so sessions are tailored to their individual needs, personality, and age.

Why Hypnotherapy Works So Well with Children

Children naturally use their imagination every day. They become absorbed in stories, games, and make-believe worlds. Hypnotherapy works by harnessing this natural ability, helping children access their inner resources, confidence, and problem-solving abilities.

Rather than focusing on problems, hypnotherapy helps children develop new ways of thinking, feeling, and responding. It encourages positive emotional patterns and helps reduce the fears, worries, or habits that may be holding them back.

Many children find hypnotherapy enjoyable because it often feels like listening to a story, using their imagination, or learning simple relaxation techniques.

What Happens During a Session?

The first part of the session involves talking with both the child and parent to understand the issue and the goals for therapy. I then explain everything in a simple, age-appropriate way so the child feels comfortable and involved.

The hypnosis itself is a pleasant state of focused relaxation. Children remain aware and in control throughout the session. There is no loss of control, and they cannot be made to do anything against their wishes.

Sessions are designed to be engaging, positive, and appropriate for the child’s age and understanding.

Helping Children Build Confidence for Life

One of the greatest benefits of hypnotherapy is that it doesn’t simply address the immediate problem. It also helps children develop valuable life skills such as:

  • Greater confidence
  • Improved emotional resilience
  • Better coping strategies
  • Positive thinking patterns
  • Relaxation skills
  • Increased self-belief

These skills can benefit them throughout childhood, adolescence, and into adulthood.

Child Anxiety and Worry

Many children struggle with anxiety, whether it’s related to school, friendships, family changes, or specific fears. Anxiety can affect sleep, concentration, mood, and overall wellbeing.

Hypnotherapy helps calm the nervous system, reduce overthinking, and build a stronger sense of security and confidence. As children learn to feel more in control of their thoughts and emotions, they often become happier, calmer, and more relaxed.

A Gentle and Effective Approach

Children often respond quickly to hypnotherapy because they are naturally open to positive change. Many parents notice improvements in confidence, behaviour, sleep, and emotional wellbeing after only a few sessions.

If your child is struggling with anxiety, confidence issues, fears, sleep problems, unwanted habits, or emotional challenges, hypnotherapy may provide the support they need to feel happier, calmer, and more confident.

Dyslexia and Dyspraxia

Children who have dyslexia and dyspraxia can feel more confident and cope with their learning problems in a more productive way.

The sessions involve talking to the child and finding out about the problem, how it affects them and most importantly, find out how they would like to behave, feel and react. The sessions are orientated around the child and most of the input comes from them rather than the parents.

Usually, a parent will sit in on the session but often teenagers prefer to attend on their own and, as long as the parents agree, that’s fine. However, the parents or guardian must sign a consent form for any child under the age of 16.
